The Drowning

The Syrian conflict produced one of the largest refugee crises that the world has witnessed in decades. But it’s only part of a much larger phenomenon. The flow of refugees never stops. Thousands of them die of drowning in the Mediterranean as they attempt to reach Europe where the promise of a better life, even as illegal immigrants subject to rejection and exploitation, awaits them. The overwhelming majority of these refugees are running from conflicts.
