The Martyr

The martyrs – the salt of all revolutions, and wars. The enablers and forestallers of the inevitable. The makers and victims of fate. The ultimate heroes. The consummate clowns. And always the seeds of what’s to come.

Only the sacrifice of those who cherish life can build a better world. Those who sacrifice in expectation of otherworldly rewards are not brave but greedy. They seek in illusions what they cannot have in reality, not due to some injustice but to their limited capacities and imagination. By choosing death as fate, be they on the delivering or receiving end, they seek to have what they ultimately don't deserve.

Note: The composition is pretty straightforward this time. The martyr is taking with minimal changes from Delacroix’s painting, while the wheel of arms we see in the background is made of La Marianne’s right hand arm carrying the flag. We can also see in the background the bird figure representing Fate.
